First, see our article on Dealing with Defunct Employee Social Media Accounts to see if accounts can be resolved without contacting the social media platform. Follow the below steps if no other options are viable. Keep in mind that social media platform request response times may vary and resolutions are at their sole discretion.

  1. Visit the profile you wish to take down.

  2. Click the ellipsis next to the Follow button. Select “Report”.

  3. Select the appropriate report reason, “They’re pretending to be me or someone else” is a common answer. Further select “My company or brand”.

  4. Twitter will then prompt you to add the handle/page that is being impersonated, your email address, and provide additional information that may be relevant, such as your company website domain, proof of trademark ownership, etc. in an email similar to the one below. The platform will notify you via email if action is taken against the listing or they will provide the reason they cannot process your request.

Alternatively, you may use the Trademark Report Form to report a page.

Make sure to record the corrective action you have taken for this profile as well as any platform responses in the ActiveComply notes section.
